UPMC Magee-Womens to Host Free Breast Screening Clinic

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Oct. 14, 2025) — In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, UPMC Magee-Womens in Central Pa. is offering a Free Breast Screening Event on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at UPMC Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists-North Harrisburg, 2645 N. 3rd St., 4th Floor, Harrisburg.

Women ages 18 and older, with no history of breast cancer, will receive a 15-minute comprehensive breast health evaluation that includes a brief review of their breast-focused risks and family history and a physical breast exam. Health insurance is not required, and attendees do not need to be a current UPMC patient to be seen.

“This initiative removes the barriers to care that women experience when addressing their breast health,” said Katherine Barton, M.D., F.A.C.S, breast surgeon, UPMC in Central Pa. “One in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Every woman deserves timely, compassionate care. By offering accessible services and emphasizing early detection, we’re working to close these gaps and ensure that no one is left behind.”

Onsite providers will include breast-specific medical oncologists, breast surgeons, nurse practitioners specializing in breast care, and primary care residents. Mammograms will not be performed at this event, nor will a full physical exam be provided. If any abnormalities are detected during the free exam, patients will be referred to a UPMC Breast Care Center for timely follow-up and continued care.

Early detection of breast cancer dramatically improves survival outcomes, with a 99% five-year survival rate when the disease is caught in its localized stage. UPMC Hillman Cancer Center emphasizes that women with dense breast tissue, genetic predispositions, or a family history of breast cancer face elevated risks and may require advanced screening tools such as 3D mammography, abbreviated MRI, or BRCA genetic testing.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a photo ID and their insurance card for identification purposes. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is encouraged.
