HANOVER AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY HIRES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

[HANOVER, PA] – The Hanover Area Historical Society (HAHS) announced today that it rings in 2026 with the hiring of its first-ever Executive Director. HAHS welcomes Terri Altland, who officially takes the reins on January 5, 2026.

Ms. Altland brings to HAHS a wealth of skills and experience, having served from 2019 to 2025 as the Vice President of Visitor Engagement at the York County History Center, where she also served as its Development Director for five years before that. From 2002 to 2014, Ms. Altland served as the Volunteer/Events Manager and provided development support at the Gettysburg Foundation.

HAHS has been a volunteer-based and volunteer-led organization during its 60-year history. During a strategic planning process, the Board of Directors found itself at a crossroads with many assets in its possession, a strong and engaged board, dedicated volunteers and support throughout the community. The Board recognized the need for a full-time executive director to continue the organization’s forward movement. The search team sought an individual who would provide leadership in the areas of financial management, fundraising/development, programming, technology, and marketing as HAHS pursues its mission “to preserve, protect and promote the historical story of Hanover area.”

“These are exciting times at the Hanover Area Historical Society,” said HAHS President Jeff Rosenzweig. “We’re delighted to welcome Terri to Hanover. The Board and I look forward to working with her at this time of transition for our Society.”

Said Altland about her new role, “I am thrilled to join the Hanover Area Historical Society as its Executive Director. It’s an exciting moment, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with the Board and community to grow the organization and advance its mission.” The HAHS Executive Director position has been made possible with a generous five-year grant from the WAY Foundation.

The Hanover Area Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. HAHS was founded in 1965 by local citizens interested in protecting and promoting the historical heritage of the greater Hanover area.
