UPMC Hosting Virtual ''From High School to Health Care'' Event
UPMC is hosting a virtual event for high school seniors and their parents or guardians, as well as high school teachers, counselors and administrators, to learn more about careers in health care.
Health care is one of the fastest growing employment sectors in the United States. Careers can range from direct patient care, like nursing or therapy, to behind-the-scenes work in a laboratory or pharmacy, to non-clinical positions in support services and professional or administrative areas. UPMC offers students a wide range of opportunities — whether graduates plan to enter the workforce immediately or pursue additional education — and has developed innovative programs to support those goals.
At “From High School to Health Care,” students can learn about available career paths, UPMC’s paid training academies, the UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing at UPMC Harrisburg and employee growth opportunities through tuition reimbursement and career ladders.
Attendees can also learn about the UPMC in Central Pa. Scholars Program and partnerships with area colleges and universities. Under the UPMC in Central Pa. Scholars Program, graduates in selected health care fields who work at UPMC will receive payments in addition to their salaries equivalent to the cost of their education.
