Pennsylvania Perinatal Quality Collaborative Recognizes UPMC Hanover for Excellence in Maternal Care Initiatives
HANOVER, PA. June 16, 2025 – UPMC Hanover has been recognized with four gold designations for its excellence in quality improvement initiatives focusing on maternal care by the Pennsylvania Perinatal Quality Collaborative (PA PQC). A gold designation signifies a hospital's proven commitment to health equity and patient voice in their quality improvement work.
UPMC Hanover's four gold designations recognize its work in establishing multidisciplinary teams that have demonstrated improvements in maternal and newborn care by sharing best practices and data in their hospital and community, with a proven commitment to furthering health equity goals and patient participation in their quality improvement work.
Hospitals had the opportunity to earn a Designation for each 2024-25 PA PQC initiative that they actively participated in, including: Immediate Postpartum Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (IPLARC), substance use disorders (SUD), and substance exposed newborn (SEN).
In addition to UPMC Hanover, two other Magee-Womens facilities in Central Pa., UPMC Harrisburg and UPMC Memorial, have been recognized with Designation Awards from PA PQC.
“We are honored that many of our UPMC Magee-Womens locations were recognized for maternal health care initiatives,” said Annmarie Lyons, vice president, women’s health service line, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. “We are working to reduce maternal mortality in our communities and to continue to serve and provide key services for pregnant and postpartum women who need our help and support.”
Designation awards and levels are based on meeting quality improvement milestone criteria over a 12-month period, starting from April 2024 through March 2025. The awards were announced and presented to staff from each hospital during a ceremony at the Blair County Convention Center on May 21, 2025. Those earning the silver or gold designation level have undertaken additional projects focused on health equity and/or patient voice within maternal and neonatal health care.
The PA PQC is administered by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation and WHAMglobal, and it is affiliated with the Northeastern PA PQC (NEPaPQC).
UPMC Hanover is part of UPMC Magee-Womens, the state’s largest network of top-rated maternity care providers.
