Lydian Stone Brewing Company Celebrates 10 Years of Craft Brewing Excellence

Hanover, PA — Main Street Hanover is proud to celebrate a major milestone for one of the region’s beloved craft breweries, Lydian Stone Brewing Company, as husband-and-wife owners Keith and Maria Stevenson mark ten years of brewing exceptional craft beer and building community connections.
Founded in 2016 as Touchstone Brewery, LLC, the business has grown from a passion project into a respected regional brewery known for its commitment to quality, creativity, and community engagement. The brewery’s original location is situated at 685 York Haven Road in York Haven, Pennsylvania, while its second location recently celebrated its first anniversary this spring on the second floor of Greer’s Burger Garage at 108 E. Chestnut Street in downtown Hanover.
The name “Lydian Stone” carries special significance. A lydian stone is the original touchstone, a hard black stone traditionally used to measure the quality and purity of gold or silver. Over time, the term has come to symbolize a benchmark of excellence and genuineness. That philosophy remains at the heart of the brewery’s mission today.
Using traditional brewing methods that have stood the test of time, Lydian Stone Brewing Company produces small-batch, handcrafted beers using quality ingredients and careful brewing techniques. Each batch is non-pasteurized for superior flavor and brewed with creativity and attention to detail.
To commemorate the milestone, Main Street Hanover’s Marketing and Administrative Coordinator, Alex Brown, sat down with Keith and Maria to reflect on a decade of brewing and community impact.
“We are absolutely amazed at how fast the time has gone by,” said Maria Stevenson. “It’s been a busy 10 years but very rewarding. We feel truly blessed and love helping the community.”
The brewery’s journey began long before opening its doors. Keith’s passion for brewing started in 2001, eventually drawing Maria into the craft.
“Keith really loved making beer; he actually started back in 2001,” Maria explained. “I was more of a baker, but he taught me how to do it and it felt kind of similar to baking. Before we thought about opening a brewery, we would have homebrew making contests with our friends and we eventually thought, ‘Why not?'”
When asked about their greatest accomplishment over the past decade, the Stevensons pointed to their impact beyond the taproom.
“Being able to help the community by doing things like fundraisers has really been a highlight,” Maria said. “We always try to follow the ‘think smarter, not harder’ quote.”
Like many entrepreneurs, the couple learned valuable lessons along the way. Looking back, they offer practical advice to aspiring brewery owners.
“Really do all of your homework and make sure you fully understand what you’re getting into,” said Keith and Maria. “Breweries are still a business, and whatever money you think you’re going to spend, double it.”
As they celebrate ten years in business, the Stevensons remain grateful for the support they’ve received from customers, fellow business owners, and the communities they serve.
“We just want to thank everyone for supporting us, whether it be customers, suggestions, advice, anything,” they said. “We’ve never looked at downtown businesses as competition; to us they’re neighbors supporting neighbors.”
The downtown Hanover location continues to serve residents and visitors throughout the week with hours of operation Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The brewery is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
As Lydian Stone Brewing Company enters its second decade, the Stevensons remain committed to producing high-quality craft beer, fostering community connections, and upholding the values that have guided them since day one.
