Hanover Area Historical Society Celebrates 60 Years with Special Event

[HANOVER, PA] – The Hanover Area Historical Society will celebrate 60 years of preserving, protecting and promoting the historical story of Hanover, Pennsylvania, on October 18th, with an afternoon of 1960s-era games, activities and entertainment on the lawn of the Warehime-Myers Mansion, 305 Baltimore Street.

“A Celebration for All Ages” will be held from 3 to 6 pm and is free and open to the public. From 3:00 to 5:00 pm, visitors can participate in games and activities such as corn hole and hula hoops. Organist Mike Pusker, President of Pusker Organ & Piano Music Club & Classes in York, Pennsylvania, will provide musical entertainment from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. From 5:00 to 6:00, Matthew Dodd will use songs and stories, both humorous and poignant, that show what life was like in the 1960s. You’re invited to bring your lawn chair to enjoy the show.

The Historical Society will sell commemorative tie-dye t-shirts and their 2025 Christmas ornament depicting the logo of the Hanover Motor Company. Boy Scout Troop 103 will sell refreshments. The Greater Hanover Area Fire Museum will bring a vintage fire engine and 1960s gear. There will be a 1961 Chevy Bel Air on display and the first floor of the Mansion and the Hanover Area History Museum will be open. The event will be held weather permitting.

The Historical Society was formed in 1965 by a group of local citizens interested in protecting the historical heritage of the greater Hanover area. One of their earliest achievements was the purchase and restoration of the 1783 Neas House, with all funding coming from the community and having this landmark placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the Historical Society also owns the 1913 neo-classical Warehime-Myers Mansion and offers history tours from April through October and their popular Christmas Tree Tours during December and January. In 2021, the Society opened the Hanover Area History Museum located in the Mansion’s former Carriage House. The Society’s Yelland Research Library and Archives is located in the Hormel History and Research Center in the Guthrie Memorial Library and holds a wide array of documents, maps, photographs and genealogical information related to the Hanover area.
