Borough of Hanover to Host Safe Streets Action Plan Public Engagement Meeting
HANOVER, PA — The Borough of Hanover will host a public engagement meeting as part of its Safe Streets for All (SS4A) study on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 6:30 PM in Borough Council Chambers at the Borough of Hanover Public Administration Building, 33 Frederick Street.
The SS4A study is a comprehensive, system-wide examination of transportation safety throughout the Borough to better understand the experiences of people who travel throughout Hanover. The meeting will provide residents and community members with an opportunity to learn more about the SS4A study and contribute feedback that will help shape the Borough’s Safe Streets Action Plan, which will establish a framework for future safety improvements and may also position the Borough to pursue funding for implementation projects. The SS4A study is being conducted with federal support through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
Hanover’s leadership has committed to achieving zero roadway fatalities by the year 2040.
Workshop Specifics
The October 26 meeting will be led by Kathy Poole, Senior Project Manager with Dewberry, the consulting firm assisting the Borough with the study. The meeting will include an introduction to the study and its goals followed by workshop activities that include multiple, interactive ‘stations’ at which citizens may provide input in various ways:
- What/Why are the Problems? Help identify broad, area-wide issues to program/policy issues
- Where Are the Problems? Help identify where safety problems and concerns are located
- When Are Problems Occurring? Help identify the times of day and night of greatest concern
In all efforts, attendees will be encouraged to share their ideas for potential solutions, which will be carefully considered as the study progresses.
“We want people to feel heard,” said Borough officials. “Community input is an important part of understanding the transportation safety network as a whole, and we take that feedback seriously.” With that in mind, an interpreter will be available on site to assist Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking attendees. Individuals requiring special accommodation are asked to notify the Borough in advance to allow sufficient time to make appropriate arrangements.
The workshop will also have available data collected as part of Dewberry’s Existing Conditions investigations: Crash data per locations and type; environmental contributors; high-injury network identification; network volumes; equity and underserved communities’ conditions; and other relevant data.
Residents, business owners, and other community members are encouraged to attend and participate in this important step in the Borough’s ongoing transportation safety planning efforts.
