York Express Extra card Driver/ Large Motor Coach Bus (CDL required)

Part-Time, rabbittransit CDL EXPRESS Bus Driver (Large Black Motor Coach on Interstate 83 transporting commuters North to Harrisburg & South to Northern MD on I-83). Runs involve AM & PM hours with split shift. Successful hire must have availability during all services times as work schedule is not assigned until ready to drive independently and is bid based.

Vehicle Pick Up Location: 415 N. Zarfoss Dr, York PA

Schedule: Monday - Friday work ---- WEEKENDS OFF! Must have availability during full Express operating times: Monday thru Friday 4 AM - 8:30 PM as bid isn't assigned until working for us for a few weeks. Bid is assigned based on seniority.

Currently, expect open schedule to get: Monday thru Friday 5:30 AM - 10:00 AM (Part-Time) with opportunity for additional hours in Paratransit and Express, as available.  Weekly repeating schedule could change into Full -Time schedule with different work schedule, based on seniority bid system when we rebid once a year.

Pay: $22.85/hour

Requirements - Must Have (at time of application):

In order to apply for Express Driver position, one MUST already have ALL of following....

-CDL Class A or B license, AND

-Passenger (P) endorsement, AND

-have Air Brake Restriction lifted (No L or Z Restrict), AND

-no N restriction (a passenger endorsement restriction), AND

-no K restriction (able to drive interstate)

-And be comfortable driving a large motor coach bus.

If you do not have the necessary "full" CDL for this position, you are welcome to apply for our Non CDL Driver position, as posted, as we offer optional, paid CDL training for those drivers.

Job Summary (Role in organization):

The position is critical in assisting rabbittransit in meeting our mission of mobility. The impact of public transportation runs much deeper than a trip from point A to point B. We are the means for which people have access to experiences that alter their lives in meaningful ways. Our culture of innovation and stewardship champions that mission. This position is responsible for operating a van/bus to transport passengers in a safe and courteous manner under specialized transportation services which provides peak-hour commuter express trips along an established route and according to a set schedule with a limited number of stops in inter-County service. The driver is responsible for driving defensively and reacting to emergency situations to ensure the safety of the passengers and the safety of the general public. Work includes completion of vehicle inspections, maintaining accurate records, assisting passengers as required including wheelchair securements, receiving and accounting for fares, radio communications, following emergency procedures, and other activities as assigned by the Operations Supervisor/Site Manager. The driver is responsible for meeting all attendance requirements according to bid (if applicable), CBA (if applicable), policy, and safety emergency response situations. CPTA is the County Emergency responder (if applicable to that division). Available for forms of other transportation systems as needed (if applicable to that division). 

Key/Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Operations Supervisor/Site Manager. This position receives training, general supervision and works according to standards. 

Some of the Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:. 

  • Prefer job related experience. 
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and common sense understanding to carry out transportation services.
  • Ability to keep mentally alert and maintain concentration. 
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and demonstrated ability to operate and drive transit coach vehicles in a safe manner. Must be able to drive safely and confidently in congested highway driving and congested city streets.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to Authority rules, procedures, directions, funding guidelines, DOT regulations and PA traffic regulations.
  • Good attendance. Ability to work bid runs, variable shifts, and irregular hours. Available for work/overtime in accordance with bid, CBA, policy and response to emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation with the ability to deal courteously, sensitively, and effectively with the public. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to operate communication and other designated automated equipment.
  • Ability to manage one's own time and to follow a schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to actively listen, communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions that are given in English. Ability to complete records. Ability to work with diverse customers.
  • Must have regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Must meet hiring qualifications including but not limited to, minimum of 21 years of age with additional criteria, acceptable driving record and background verification in accordance with CPTA standards.

Certificates and Licenses Required: 

  • Must possess valid Commercial Driver's License class "A" or "B" operator's license WITH passenger endorsement AND air brake restriction lifted, passenger endorsement restriction lifted and interstate restriction lifted that is not under suspension or revocation, and possess current automobile insurance coverage. 
  • Must possess a valid DOT medical card. (Will send for such if given a contingent offer.)
  • This is a safety sensitive position subject to US DOT Drug and Alcohol pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and return to duty testing.
