SUMMARY:2nd Annual Benefit Ride for Rebekah Tuckey
DESCRIPTION:If you were not involved with the first fundraiser let me give you a short background. Bekah Tuckey was diagnosed last August with Leukemia at the age of 5. Her mother\, Katherine Tuckey\, and I have been friends for many\, many years. As the year has passed\, I have watched this family go through every human emotion possible. I cannot do what I truly wish I could do in this situation which is to make little Bekah ("boo") free of cancer\; so\, I am left to do the only tangible thing I can manage. Our goal is to raise money to help with the overwhelming financial burden that comes hand-in-hand with this monumental diagnosis. While this entire family has shown strength\, courage and an awe-inspiring determination to win this battle\, they can still use any help available. Bekah is in the "maintenance" phase of treatment. While this should include much less frequent trips to Hershey and chemotherapy in the pill form vs. IV treatment\, this phase has been anything but what was expected. Bekah has returned every single week at least once to Hershey for tests of one sort or another. Her beautiful hair (QUITE important to a little girl\, as anyone can imagine) started to return only to fall back out within the last couple weeks. She simply missed many aspects last year that we all take for granted - going to Kindergarten was no longer a given but a special occasion\, the dance classes she loves to take could not begin until May of 2012 instead of August of 2011\, the wrestling that she so enjoyed the previous year was out of the question. Kate\, who has put her heart and soul into helping autistic children in her profession\, lost her job because of her dedication to Bekah. I could go on\, but I will not. The "talks" Kate has to have with this child and the way she has grown up over the course of a year is astounding. What can you do to help? \n\n The riders raised OVER $6\,000.00 last year. I want to exceed that number. You DO NOT have to be a rider to help. Donations of any sort are welcome and appreciated in a way you cannot imagine. I will be sending a flyer out in the next few weeks for anyone interested in the actual event. If you would like to make a monetary donation\, you may do so in the weeks leading up to the event or you could stop by the event itself. We would love to see you. All donations should be made payable toRebekah Tuckey (Katherine is custodian of the account). If you will be mailing your donation\, simply send me an e-mail and I can forward their address to you. \n\n The 2nd Annual Ride for Bekah will be on October 21st @ 9:00. (Rain date = October 28th) Registration to begin @ 7:30AM. We will begin and end the ride at the same location as last year - Food Lion at the edge of McSherrystown. Again\, there will be a 30 mile or a 60 mile loop for your enjoyment. Prizes will be awarded through a random drawing for any riders the day of the event. I am most excited to announce that Katherine will be saying a few words to all the attendees prior to the start of the ride. As we did last year\, the riders of the 60 mile loop will pass Bekah's house and have a chance to get a photograph with little Boo. I urge you to forward this e-mail to anyone who would be interested in donating\, helping OR riding.
