SEK Announces Mid-Year Promotions

The Members of SEK, CPAs & Advisors are pleased to announce the following Manager, Supervisor, and Senior Associate promotions effective July 1, 2024:

Promoted to Human Resources Manager:
Hannah Bumbaugh, SHRM-CP, promoted to Human Resources Manager: Since joining the firm in 2019, Hannah has provided human resources (HR) support, including recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, strategic planning, employee relations, training, and employee development. She manages the firm’s policies and procedures and extends her expertise to serve as a backup for SEK’s outsourced HR consulting services. Hannah is a member of the firm’s Practice Development and Emerging Professionals Committees. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with a focus on Human Capital Management from Pennsylvania State University and is a certified Society of Human Resources Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP). Hannah graduated with Leadership Franklin County’s Class of 2023. Outside of the office, she is an active member of The Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), Secretary of the Penn State Mont Alto Alumni Society, a Youth Steering Committee member for Leadership Franklin County, a member of Franklin County Career Tech Occupational Advisory Committee, and a Certified Tourism Ambassador for Franklin County, PA. Hannah enjoys hiking with her two labs, traveling to National Parks with her husband, hosting friends at her home, trying new foods and restaurants, and watching baseball and football (specifically the Steelers, Penn State, and the Pirates).

Promoted to Supervisor:
Nicholas Chapman promoted to Supervisor: Nick specializes in helping clients streamline their accounting systems for tax returns and bookkeeping needs, primarily working with closely held businesses and individuals. In addition to tax planning and preparation, he provides outsourced CFO services to the firm’s clients. He is also an active member of SEK’s Emerging Professionals Committee. Nick holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Shepherd University, where he was recognized as a McMurran Scholar. He is in the process of obtaining his Certified Public Accountant license, having successfully passed all four parts of the exam and being awarded the Merit Award for receiving the highest combined score in the state of West Virginia. Based in the Hagerstown office, he joined the team in 2022. Outside of work, Nick is involved with Connections Community Church, serves as a pianist for local churches, is active in local agricultural associations, and is a Coach for the West Virginia FFA Agri-Business Management Contest. He enjoys working on lawn & garden and agricultural equipment, landscaping, and spending time outdoors with his family and friends. 

Kayla Golden, CPA, promoted to Supervisor: With over seven years of experience, Kayla specializes in supervising client engagements and delivering comprehensive audit and review services. She manages the entire audit process, from collecting deliverables and addressing client inquiries to finalizing audit reports. Kayla's expertise spans a range of clients, including ERISA, commercial, manufacturing, and construction sectors. In addition to her client responsibilities, Kayla assists with the firm’s summer leadership program titled ExploreSEK, trains department staff, and is a member of the Emerging Professionals Committee. Kayla graduated cum laude from High Point University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a minor in Finance. Based in the Hagerstown office, she is a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland and joined the firm in 2018. Outside of work, Kayla enjoys reading, running, cycling on her Peloton, being outdoors, and spending time with her son and husband.

Nicholas Lavenberg, CPA, MBA promoted to Supervisor: Nick delivers audit, review, and compilation services as an Assurance & Advisory team member. Primarily working with nonprofit organizations and local governments, he has gained a deep understanding of the unique accounting principles, regulations, and reporting requirements specific to these entities. Nick presents industry-specific training at the firm’s internal continuing education programs. He plays a key role in training new staff and interns and serves as a speaker at the firm’s summer leadership program, ExploreSEK. Additionally, he contributes as a member of the firm’s Audit Efficiency Task Force. Nick graduated summa cum laude from Mount St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Economics. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University Shreveport. Nick is a Certified Public Accountant in Pennsylvania and joined the Hanover office in 2021. Outside of work, Nick volunteers for the Special Olympics and previously worked with the American Diabetes Association and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He enjoys skiing, snowboarding, running, golfing, pickleball, and watching Phillies baseball.


Promoted to Senior Associate:
Spencer Hood, MBA, promoted to Senior Associate: Spencer performs audit, review, and compilation services, focusing primarily on nonprofit and commercial clients. In addition to leading smaller engagements, he provides mentorship to junior staff. He is also a member of the firm’s Emerging Professionals Committee. Spencer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from Shippensburg University. Based in the Hagerstown office, he joined the team in 2023. Outside of work, Spencer’s hobbies include spending time with his girlfriend, streaming movies and shows, and studying for the CPA exam.
