Pay: $21.00 -$24.00/hour

The position is critical in assisting the Susquehanna Regional Transportation Authority in meeting our mission of mobility. This position is responsible for providing assistance and support to the Safety and Training Department in a variety of administrative functions including employee training, accident and incident reporting and review, workers' compensation, and general safety monitoring and compliance.
Key/Reporting Relationship/Direct Reports:
This position reports to the Safety and Training Manager. This position receives general instructions regarding the scope and approach to assignments.
Some of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Achieves the Authority's mission and strategic goals by performing a wide variety of administrative duties to support the Safety and Training Department. Provides customer service and answers questions from employees and the general public, both in-person and by telephone.
Contributes to organization's effectiveness by assisting with setting up employee new hire and refresher trainings through learning management systems (LMS). Completes all data entry and filing related to training.
Ensures safety by gathering, tracking and analyzing information and trends to prevent workplace injuries and actively continue employee health and safety development awareness. Assists the team in reviewing and analyzing data relating to incidents/accidents and ensuring that the data entered is accurately.
Analyzes incident/accident data by reviewing and downloading video data; electronically storing essential video data for future retrieval and review; preparing video for downloading and storing for transit authority needs or law enforcement or other governmental agencies requests.
Conducts incident and video review to ensure compliance and recommending remedial training and discipline when appropriate. The results of this analysis will be recorded in the Safety Management System.
Monitors and archives historical information for adequate data retention periods. Tracking, researching and confirming data by using the Safety Management System database. Retrieving incident data when needed from the Avail and Ecolane data systems and analyzes this data to assist in the overall investigation. Documenting discoveries and tracking corrective action. Preparing investigative reports based upon information obtained from those systems.
Assists the Safety, Security and Training Officer by entering SRTA data into the Federal Transit Administration National Transit Database in a timely fashion. Ensures all protocol is adhered to and that all reports are complete, accurate and processed timely. Completes all associated data entry and filing.
Processes accident and workers' compensation incidents by assisting manager in verifying and receiving incident reports, submitting claims to the insurance carrier and following up and coordinating between insurance adjusters, claimants and providers. Completes all data entry and filing related to worker's compensation by:
- Analyzing claims to determine liability, extent of coverage, and extent of injury.
- Performing risk management activities.
- Makes recommendations for investigative process improvements to ensure the maximum return on claims and subrogation.
- Evaluating the entire claim from beginning to end, from initial report to the final settlement.
- Advising management on matters relating to claim activity as well as trends and developments in the field of claims processing.
- Utilizing statistical analysis to evaluate effectiveness of internal and external strategies.
- Utilizes methods to improve workers' compensation program.
- Identifies trends in claims patterns and emerging issues through data analysis to identify opportunities for process improvement.
Completes record keeping and documentation by documenting procedures and decisions; maintaining required documentation; inputting and maintaining computer applications, forms, and logs; reviewing operator documents for accuracy, response, and timely delivery to appropriate departments; collect, analyze, and track operating data as assigned. Completes daily clerical assignments such as accident logs and other logs.
Contributes to the team by training assigned employees.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational classes/workshops; maintaining detailed knowledge of service area, handbook provisions for operations, operators, service requirements and safety and training knowledge/skills/certifications.
Some of the Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:
- HS degree or equivalent is required with some college preferred.
- Two years' experience in Safety preferred.
- Proficient at administrative skills and data entry.
- Ability to understand transit systems operations and service area.
- Ability to work various shifts and days, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to understand safety and training information, policies, and function responsibilities.
- Ability to be curious and learn from asking questions and listening to others.
- Experience in using personal computers, applications, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Safety Records Management System and LMS.
- Excellent powers of concentration- ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously within a distracting environment is essential.
- Ability to analyze situations, solve problems and deal with a variety of changing situations in a timely manner.
- Willingness to evaluate an employee's adherence to rules and regulations and to report irregularities to management.
- Able to function effectively under stress and remain calm and collected during emergencies; enjoy working under pressure.
- Ability to be detail oriented, organized, accurate, and able to prioritize work tasks.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to be self-motivated and results oriented to accomplish objectives.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with operators, clients, and staff to gain information and support in accomplishing goals. Ability to interact courteously with diverse internal and external customers.
- Ability to travel for organizational needs.
- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, various shifts and weekend work.
- Must meet hiring qualifications of an acceptable driving record and background verification in accordance with SRTA standards.
Certificates and Licenses Required:
- Must possess valid motor vehicle operator's license that is not under suspension or revocation, and possess current automobile insurance coverage.
