ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
YWCA Hanover, established in 1920, provides quality childcare, eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all with its highly acclaimed accredited programs. Child Care starts at 12 months through the age of 12 with an affordable full-day pre-school program, before/after school program and summer camp. The Safe Home domestic violence program offers free 24/7 services to victims of domestic violence including safety planning and temporary housing for the Hanover area and Adams County.
Additionally, YWCA Hanover provides a variety of successful programs and events throughout the year including Girls Loving Life which seeks to inspire, encourage, and motivate young girls to love themselves and value each other; diversity and inclusion workshops; an annual professional and personal development event for women; and participation in the International Men’s March To Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence with its Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event.
POSITION SUMMARY
The CEO is responsible for ensuring that YWCA Hanover is considered a recognized leader and a premier model for societal support and change through its crisis intervention, advocacy, youth, and childcare programming, along with education and training events.
This is a hands-on leader and role model who is accountable to the team and to an active Board; a strategic, analytical, and out-of-the box thinker; an effective and courageous head-on problem solver with a can-do attitude; and someone who responds to challenges with sound, consistent, and fair judgment. The CEO is a collaborative and communicative leader who can successfully motivate and inspire a team and Board members, as well as a wide range of constituents, supporters, and community members.
As the YWCA’s primary spokesperson, the CEO delivers compelling and engaging stories of the YWCA’s mission, history, and programming to recruit and connect with potential partners and funders and to advance the organization’s mission.
Oversee the current capital campaign, including fund raising for the estimated $11mm building campaign (approximately $10MM raised to date), building construction, expanded staffing, enhanced programs, and increased childcare enrollment.
Provide comprehensive oversight of a $3mm+ budget, increasing revenue to $5mm with the expanded childcare capacity resulting from the facility expansion.
 
REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced degree in Social Welfare, Public Administration, or related field preferred. Ten plus years of progressive management/executive nonprofit experience with comparable fiscal resources and programs experience.
  • Experience with early childhood programming, domestic violence, and trauma informed care is helpful, as is a background with shelter and day care operational and licensure qualifications.
  • Leadership skills to motivate staff, donors, and public in support of the YWCA’s strategic objectives and day-to-day operations.
  • Excellent human relations, leadership, organizational management, and communication skills.
  • Experience in policy formulation, and project/program evaluation in an environment that has a 24/7 service obligation.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • On-site position with evening and weekend obligations as needed.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Success in this role will be demonstrated through the execution of the following responsibilities and duties, as aided by professional qualifications, experience, and personal attributes.
Strategic Leader
  • Oversight for the management and operation of two domestic violence office locations, early learning and school age education programs, and advocacy and activism programming.
  • Serve as the Executive Officer of the Board of Directors enabling it to meet its constitutional and legal responsibilities, building and maintaining a robust partnership with the Board and its committees.
  • Ensure the Board is provided with and connected to current information and insight regarding all internal operations and any relevant local, regional, national legislative, or judicial issues.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan that advances the work of the YWCA, utilizing established short-and long-term goals that support the mission, vision, and values of the YWCA through innovative programming and services, budgets, public relations, fundraising and advocacy goals.
  • Maintain the reputation and visibility of the YWCA through oversight of communications, marketing plans and human resource policies.
  • Represent and work closely with the leadership of the national YWCA offices and other YWCAs to build strong and sustainable relationships.
  • Serve as the chief spokesperson and community advocate for YWCA Hanover private and public human service organizations and associations, advocates, lawmakers, government staff and agencies, the media, donors, and key community representatives.
 
Organizational Leadership and Development
  • Through role model work behaviors and supervisory skills, manage the organization’s human resource functions including recruits, hires, terminates, orients, trains, and evaluates staff (including leadership development) in accordance with Personnel Policies, industry best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Create and sustain a collaborative work environment for staff, supporting and coaching them to achieve their potential while holding them accountable to clearly defined expectations and goals.
  • Provide the leadership, guidance, and support needed to ensure smooth transitions through organizational leadership and/or structural change.
  • Serve as a leader in the ongoing recruitment and retention of volunteers inspired by the mission and values of the YWCA.
  • Oversee operation of committees for alignment with mission and goals and appoint appropriate staff support for each committee and related Board position to facilitate the successful accomplishment of goals.
 
 
 
Financial Management and Fund Development
Work in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer.
Possess high financial acumen with experience in budgeting, grants, and financial reporting, to:
  • Provide comprehensive fiscal management oversight; develop annual organizational and program operating budgets; regularly monitor operating revenue and expenditures; monitor all endowment and investment funds; approve timesheets and payroll; and ensure compliance to organizational financial policies, grant funders, and standard accounting and auditing practices.
  • Empower and lead staff processes for developing the annual budget.
  • Work closely with staff and volunteers to ensure a financially sound operation and proper use of YWCA assets.
  • Assess risk management procedures and emergency preparedness planning on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure a long-range plan is in place for facility assets, maintenance, replacement and capital improvements through the annual operating and capital budget.
  • Responsible for all contracts and leases.
  • Engage in effective fundraising and development of assets needed to ensure the ongoing viability of the organization, its resources, programs, services, and facilities.
  • Identify revenue sources and engage potential supporters to assure ongoing program and fiscal stability through the development of an aggressive fundraising plan; build development across all facets by cultivating foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual donors; facilitate the pursuit of diverse grants and contracts; and seek appropriate strategic alliances.
  • Bring a creative and entrepreneurial approach to revenue generation.
